Why should you use Radiant Root Bench Heating instead of conventional Bench Heating with Tubing?

What is Conventional Bench Heating?
Conventional Bench Heating consists of thin tubing, extending from one bench end to the other. On a 100 ft. long bench, water travels 200 feet--losing heat to your potting plants and creating a large temperature differential from one end to the other. In this scenario, you are also limited to the length you purchased unless you cut the tubes. The manifolds are usually located at one end, usually using 1” PVC pipe as supply and return to the boiler.

Why should you use Radiant Root Bench Heating?
Radiant Bench Heating is as different as night and day from conventional heating methods.

Radiant Root panel is a mat with a series of small tubing molded together as a mat, 4 ft. long X the width of your bench. If your bench is 5 ft. wide X 100 ft. long, you would purchase 25 pc. 5 ft. wide x 4 ft. long. Contrary to the old method of bench heating where both manifolds are situated at one end, our manifolds run the length of the bench. The water travels only the width of the bench; in this case 5 ft. We use a reverse return so that the whole bench will be balanced and maintain a consistent temperature. Because the mats are only 4 ft. X the width of the bench, they are modular and can easily be dismantled and stored. Conversely, the mats can be used as a shorter bench length in the future.

Here is a great idea: If you are a greenhouse owner who sells plants in early Spring and are afraid of frost, you can use these mats as your floor in the driveway. Fill the system with Glycol and you now have a system that can be used as a mini heated Greenhouse when frost is expected. Simply turn on the heat, cover with plastic and forget about moving all the plants.
